Happy Thanksgiving, All! I hope that everything is well with you and yours and that you have a wonderful holiday. I am extremely thankful for all the wonderful people and blessings that I have in my life, and, in the style of my blog, I would like to write a little ode to the thing I write about here the most- books.
I am thankful for books. The pages. The covers. The Words inside. I am thankful for Hogwarts. For the arena. For Narnia. I am thankful for Jane Austen. And Charles Dickens. I am thankful for “Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening”. And “O Me! O Life!” For “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”. I am thankful for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. For Aslan. For Elizabeth Bennet. For Charlie, Sam, and Patrick.
I am thankful for all the nights I have spent up until 2 am because I could not put a book down. One more chapter. One more word. I am thankful for all the mornings I have woken up with my book pressed to my face, not remembering how I fell asleep or where the book’s story turned into my dream.
I am thankful for all the laughter and tears that books have provided me. For the emotions they have evoked. For the feelings they have made me feel.
I am thankful for their ability to lead me to amazing people. For their giving me a way to connect with human beings in a way that I didn’t think was possible.
I am thankful for their authors. For the brains behind them. For the people who didn’t want to do anything but write- for the people like me.
I am thankful for their ideas- for proving that being a prole is not simply enough. For showing that an idea can change the world long after the author is dead.
I am thankful for their characters- for teaching me that a good book is so much better if its characters develop. For making me realize that characters are based off of human beings- and that if there is more than one dimension to a character, there is more than one dimension to a person.
I am thankful for learning that if you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, then you shouldn’t judge a person by their appearance.
I am thankful for all the adventures. For all the times in my life when I needed to escape. For all the times when I needed to get my mind off of things. I am thankful that, even though I never actually left the comforts of my room, I have seen so many amazing things.
I am thankful for the use of my imagination. How reading a book is simply not enough- but it must also be expanded upon. And thought about.
I am thankful for the words that have touched my soul. For the quotes that I cannot forget.
I am thankful for books.
